Pulwama Attack – Black day of India

The Pulwama attack occurred on February 14, 2019, in the Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, India. It was a terrorist attack carried out by a suicide bomber belonging to the Pakistan-based militant group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). Here are the full details of the incident:

Date and Location: The attack took place on February 14, 2019, when a convoy of vehicles carrying Indian security personnel was targeted on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway near Awantipora in the Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Casualties: The attack resulted in the tragic loss of 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel who were traveling in the convoy. Many others were injured in the blast.

Nature of Attack: The attack was carried out using a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED). The suicide bomber, identified as Adil Ahmad Dar, drove a car laden with explosives into the convoy and detonated it.

Responsibility: Jaish-e-Mohammed, a Pakistan-based militant organization, claimed responsibility for the attack. The group is known for its anti-India stance and has been involved in several terrorist activities in the region.

Reactions: The attack sparked widespread condemnation both domestically and internationally. India accused Pakistan of providing support and shelter to terrorist groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed. Pakistan denied any involvement and condemned the attack as well.

Indian Response: In response to the Pulwama attack, India undertook several measures. These included diplomatic efforts to isolate Pakistan, economic sanctions, and most notably, a military airstrike on what India claimed were terrorist training camps in Balakot, Pakistan.

International Response: The international community condemned the attack and expressed solidarity with India in its fight against terrorism. The United Nations Security Council issued a statement condemning the attack, but efforts to designate Jaish-e-Mohammed leader, Masood Azhar, as a global terrorist were initially blocked by China.

Domestic Impact: The Pulwama attack had significant political repercussions within India. It heightened tensions between India and Pakistan and led to increased calls for a strong response against terrorism. The incident also became a focal point during the general elections in India held in April-May 2019.
