Nand Gopal Gupta, fondly known as Nandi, hails from Prayagraj. He was born to Suresh Chandra Gupta and completed his High School education in 1989 under the Uttar Pradesh board.
Nand Gopal Nandi began his political journey in 2007, securing a seat in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly from the Prayagraj South constituency, representing the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). Despite facing defeat in the 2012 elections, he persisted and contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections under the Indian National Congress banner from Prayagraj. His fortunes turned in 2017 when he emerged victorious in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, this time representing the BJP from the Prayagraj South Assembly constituency.
Presently, Nandi holds pivotal portfolios within the BJP-led Uttar Pradesh government, including Minority Affairs, Political Pension, and Civil Aviation.
However, Nand Gopal Nandi’s political journey has been full of controversies. In July 2020, an FIR was filed against him alleging forceful saffronization of houses in his colony without requisite permissions.
In his personal life, Nandi is married to Abhilasha Gupta, who also shares a political background. Additionally, he faced adversity in 2010 when he sustained serious injuries in a bomb attack in Prayagraj, with fellow MLA Vijay Mishra implicated in the incident.
