Chitradurga, Karnataka – A shocking incident in Chitradurga, Karnataka, has brought to light the devastating consequences of online gambling addiction. A man identified as Darshan Balu, reportedly lost Rs 1.5 crore (approximately $180,000 USD) in online betting, leading to unbearable financial distress and the tragic suicide of his wife, Ranjita V.
According to reports, Balu, an engineer by profession, had been placing bets on cricket matches for several years. His addiction spiraled out of control, and he accumulated massive debts from various lenders. The constant pressure from these lenders to repay the loans created immense stress and tension within the household.
Ranjita, unable to bear the financial burden and alleged harassment from the lenders, took her own life. Her family has filed a complaint against the lenders, claiming their relentless pursuit of repayment drove Ranjita to this devastating act.
This heartbreaking incident underscores the dangers of gambling addiction, a growing problem in India. The ease of access to online betting platforms has fueled a surge in gambling-related issues. Experts warn that the lure of quick money often traps individuals in a vicious cycle of debt and despair.
