Godzilla and Kong are back, and this time, the monsterverse brought back some antagonist titans where Kong and Godzilla once again team up as they’re fighting for the fate of an entire world! “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” is the latest entry in Legendary’s Monsterverse, and it delivers exactly what fans crave: a colossal clash of titans with dazzling visuals and epic fight scenes.
Visual Treat on the Big Screen
Let’s get this out of the way first: this movie is a visual feast. Director Adam Wingard just like his previous installments in Monsterverse there is nothing more to expect from this movie in terms of story and emotions, It is truly an action-packed masterpiece blended with stunning visuals especially when the Titans take their battles to new environments like the neon-drenched Hollow Earth.
Hollow Earth’s deep exploration and its secrets:
This film introduces a surprising new threat to the Monsterverse, and its connection to the existing lore is both unexpected and exciting. While details are a bit fuzzy, avoiding spoilers here, Jia the girl who communicates with Kong and the lone survivor of their clan, experiences strange signals from Hollow Earth our heroes explore the mysterious hidden places at Hollow Earth where the visuals are breathtaking
While the human characters often take a backseat to the monster mayhem, there are some genuinely heartwarming and funny moments particularly the scenes between Bernie and Trapper are wholesome. Also, the bond that forms between Kong and a new, adorable creature introduced in the film Baby Kong Suko, and its character development is a thing to applaud. The scenes between Kong and Baby Suko are great to watch.
Scar-King and Shimu: deserved more screen time
The plot itself can feel a bit thin at times. The human characters’ motivations can be a little muddled, and some might find the overall story predictable. It is purely a Monsters movie, where human characters have less emotion and importance which felt very good. However, the introduction of villains Scar-king and Shimu and the first encounter between Kong and Scar King is a highlight in the film which is very different compared to its other movies. Scar-king is a villain with some brains and a purpose which makes him special from other villain creatures from previous movies. Fans expected more scenes from Scar-King and a little bit of screen time
The Verdict: Must watch for its gruesome action scenes and visuals
“Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” is a monster movie through and through. It doesn’t try to be anything more, and that’s perfectly okay. It’s more of a Kong movie and less of a Godzilla movie. This movie plays Kong as the main lead and might be hurtful for Godzilla fans but true. Director Adam Wingard once again succeeded in not allowing the audience to sit in their seats, he presented the movie on a grander scale and delivered what was expected from him. If you’re looking for a film with incredible visuals, earth-shattering action sequences, and a healthy dose of monster mayhem, then this movie is worth checking out on the big screen. Just don’t expect anything like story and plot. It is the perfect movie to enjoy with anyone this weekend.
Final Rating: 4 out of 5 stars!
Positives: Action episodes between Kong and Scar-King, Hollow Earth visuals, Godzilla’s new form
Negatives: The plot, and CGI of Scar-King and Baby Kong Suko could’ve been better, limited screen time for Godzilla.
