Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi Killed in Helicopter Crash: Investigation Underway

On May 19, 2024, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi died in a helicopter crash in the northwestern region of Varzaqan, Iran. The helicopter, carrying Raisi along with Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and other officials, crashed in a foggy, mountainous area. All passengers on board were confirmed dead by state-run media

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, and there have been no official statements suggesting foul play or external involvement. Despite some online speculation about Israeli involvement, experts consider it improbable, noting that Israel typically targets military and nuclear sites rather than engaging in high-profile assassinations. Historically, such an act would likely provoke severe repercussions from Iran

Raisi, who was known for his hardline stances and significant roles within Iran’s judicial and political systems, had been president since 2021. His death comes at a critical time of heightened tensions and complex geopolitics in the region
