Atishi has been named the new Chief Minister of Delhi following a legislative party meeting chaired by Arvind Kejriwal at his residence earlier today. Kejriwal is expected to submit his resignation and meet Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena at 4:30 pm. After Sheila Dikshit and Sushma Swaraj, Atishi will become the third woman Chief Minister of Delhi.
KEJRIWAL’S RESIGNATION ANNOUNCEMENT
On September 13, Arvind Kejriwal was released from Tihar Jail, where he was held in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case. Two days later, on Sunday, Kejriwal announced his intent to resign as Chief Minister within 48 hours. He also called for early elections in Delhi and declared he wouldn’t return to the role until people provided him a “certificate of honesty.”
On Monday, the AAP held multiple meetings as Kejriwal gathered feedback on his successor through one-on-one discussions with members of the party’s political affairs committee.
